Gracious Heavenly Father, like your disciples of old, we find it easy to honor you with our lips but our hearts are often far from you.
It is not hard to sing, but it is hard to surrender.
We confess the honest truth about ourselves:
We call you Master and yet we do not obey;
We call you the Light and yet we tolerate darkness;
We call you the way, yet we do not follow your Word;
We call you the life, yet we often use you as a last resort;
We call you wise, yet resent you when you don’t give us what we want;
We call you generous, yet we don’t ask you for our needs;
We call you loving, yet we often fail to love others.
Have mercy on us because of Christ.
May your infinite kindness transform our hearts and may your Spirit control our lives. Amen.
